Pud Galvin

(b. December 25, 1856 - d. March 7, 1902)
|
| Nicknamed "Pud" because he made pudding out of hitters,
Galvin was pitcher supreme for NL Buffalo in the 1880s.
On his way to 364 career victories, Galvin pitched
more than 400 innings nine times, and won 46 games
in both 1883 and 1884. "Gentle Jeems" ended his career
with 57 shutouts, 646 complete games and 6,003 1/3
innings pitched. |

In 1980, Perez-Steele Galleries of Ft. Washington, Pa., produced the first in a series of limited-edition (10,000 each) postcards devoted to members of the Hall of Fame. The company updates its series regularly to add new inductees. The 3-1/2" X 5-1/2" cards feature color portrait and smaller sepia action watercolor paintings by Dick Perez. Decorative postcard backs have a few words about the player, card and series number and individual set number from within the edition of 10,000. Cards were sold in series only, in a color-coded box which includes a checklist. |
