Comments: This is one of my favorite modern cards and I remember first seeing
the base card on eBay when I was looking for the perfect Verlander
portrait. Upon receipt I was really happy with the condition,
no scratches or dinks. But, I didn't scrutinize it enough. In
Nov, 2013 I included this card in a submission using a 15-free
gradings voucher I received from PSA for joining their Collectors
Club. Now that I look at it more closely I can see the centering
is a little off. That must have been the reason for the NM-MT
"8" rating.
UPDATE: I picked up a gold refractor, serially numbered 47/50
on the reverse, on eBay in July, 2011 from Jesse Bachman (arodrules3333)
for $10.99.
UPDATE: A base refractor showed up on eBay in September, 2014 graded MINT by PSA and I snagged it. I thought the card, serially numbered 391/499 on the reverse, would compliment the gold refractor nicely.
UPDATE: In late April, 2015 a Red refractor numbered 14/25 showed up on eBay. I wasn’t even aware of a Red version of the card. I immediately registered a snipe and won the card a week later for $29.50 including S&H. In addition, a less rare blue version numbered 51/199 popped up and I won that too for $6. I thought – “why not go after a whole run, right?” Both cards were later submitted to PSA and came back graded MINT 9 (blue) and GEM MT 10 (red)
UPDATE: Submitted a couple raw Verlanders in Feb/2017 and PSA returned one back in a MINT 9 holder (Gold Refractor) and another in a GEM MT 10 holder (National Chicle Base Card) - stoked!!!
